I hope you had a wonderful summer break.  All students can find out who their assigned teacher for the year will be on Friday, August 29 after 5:00 pm.  All classroom lists will be posted on the outside doors of the building.  Everyone will be returning to school on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.  You will be lining up in your teacher’s designated area.  Tuesday will be a half day for all students which means they will be dismissed at 11:45 am.  The rest of the week will consist of full days where students will be expected at school no later than 8:35 am and they will be dismissed at 3:35 pm.  Enjoy the rest of your summer, we are looking forward to seeing you next week!

I hope everyone had a great time and learned a lot about science during our two weeks of summer school.  We Learned and applied all the steps to the scientific method, measured how much sugar is in a bottle of soda, suspended an egg between two layers of water, made an exploding volcano, grew bacteria and then observed it through a microscope, and so much more.  Here are some pictures of just a few things we learned about.

Summer is here!  The weather is getting warmer and the days are longer!  Our students have made BIG improvements this year and we want to prevent that “summer slide”.  In order to keep your child’s brain thinking and working, the staff at McDonald Elementary has put together a summer activity calendar.  Children in grades k and 1st brought home a tan calendar and students in grades 2nd-5th brought their calendar home on blue paper.

Along with the calendar, teachers have provided your child with a few websites that will help with math and reading.  Your child is familiar with these websites and they know their passwords!

Today our 3rd-5th graders went on a fun filled field trip to Comerica Park! Students took part in an awesome lesson on weather which included a demonstration using liquid nitrogen to form a cloud.

After the lesson, students watched the Tigers take on the Rangers!
